Preserving a history
carried by families.
Kouchibouguac Heritage is an independent digital heritage project dedicated to preserving and sharing the stories, memories and family histories connected to the communities affected by the creation of Kouchibouguac National Park.
A place shaped by families, community and memory.
A history that belongs
to the families.
Long before Kouchibouguac National Park was created, families lived, worked and built communities across these lands.
During the creation of the park, many residents were displaced and their properties were expropriated. Homes, roads, farms and entire communities changed, but the memories connected to those places did not disappear.
Kouchibouguac Heritage was created to help preserve those histories — through family stories, photographs, oral histories, documents, maps and memories passed from one generation to the next.
