ARCHIVE POLICY

Rights &
Reproduction

✦

Kouchibouguac Heritage is committed to preserving historical material while respecting the rights of families, creators, contributors, archives and other rights holders.

01
OUR APPROACH

Preservation does not mean giving up ownership.

Photographs, documents, recordings, written histories and other materials displayed by Kouchibouguac Heritage may be owned by individuals, families, archives, institutions or other rights holders.

Unless a separate written agreement says otherwise, contributing or permitting material to appear in the archive does not by itself transfer copyright ownership to Kouchibouguac Heritage.

02

Material contributed by families

Contributors should only submit material that they own, are authorized to share, or reasonably believe may be reproduced for the purposes of the archive.

Where permission is granted to Kouchibouguac Heritage, the intended use should be documented. Whenever possible, contributors and source collections will be credited.

03

Historical photographs & documents

The presence of an historical item on this website does not necessarily mean that it is free of copyright restrictions.

Copyright may remain with the photographer, author, estate, institution or another rights holder even when the physical item belongs to a family or collection.

04

Public-domain material

Some historical works may be in the public domain and may therefore be reproduced without copyright permission.

Kouchibouguac Heritage nevertheless encourages users to preserve the original source information, creator name, collection and archival reference whenever known.

05

Archival & institutional sources

Material obtained from archives, museums, libraries, government institutions or other collections may be subject to that institution’s own reproduction, licensing, credit and access conditions.

Users wishing to reproduce such material may need to contact the originating institution directly.

REQUESTING PERMISSION

Reproducing material from the archive

Please do not assume that photographs, documents, recordings or other archival material displayed on this website may be downloaded, republished, printed, redistributed or used commercially without permission.

If you would like to reproduce an item, contact Kouchibouguac Heritage with the name of the item, the page where it appears and how you would like to use it. Where we are not the rights holder, we will identify the known source or rights holder whenever possible.

WEBSITE CONTENT

Original Kouchibouguac Heritage material

Unless otherwise indicated, original text, graphic design, illustrations, research compilations and other original material created specifically for Kouchibouguac Heritage are protected by copyright.

Historical items appearing within those pages may have separate ownership and copyright status. A Kouchibouguac Heritage page should therefore not be interpreted as a claim of ownership over every archival item displayed on it.
